Waltham Budget Calls for $8.3 Million Increase
Mayor Jeannette McCarthy has proposed a FY2016 budget of $237.8 million.

Waltham’s major this week proposed a $237.8 million for FY2016, which is slightly less than departmental requests totaled, which was $243.1 million.
Mayor Jeannette McCarthy’s $237,831,682 overall town budget includes 29 programs and services, and marks an increase of $8,322,263, over FY2015, or 4.6 percent increase.
The budget would call for $2,605,947 for the schools, $490,496 for police and $2,927,000 in medical insurance. Because of an anticipated increase of Circuit Breaker funding, the Waltham school department’s request was reduced by $200,000. The police department is asking to hire three cadets.

The FY2016 proposed budget also asks for an additional shift for the water and sewer department, which the mayor says would reduce overtime costs.
