Waltham Charitable Giving Program Winners Announced

The Belmont Savings Bank Foundation awarded $30,000 in grants to five Waltham charities.

Waltham, MA – The winners of the Belmont Savings Bank Foundation's $30,000 grant program in Waltham were announced Monday.

The MacArthur Elementary School PTO took first prize and was awarded $10,000 for the upgrade and expansion of the school's playground.

Waltham residents were eligible to vote for their favorite nonprofit. The MacArthur Elementary School PTO will use their community grant for the upgrade and expansion of their playground. Since 2012, the Foundation has contributed over $700,000 to local groups in the Greater Boston area.

Here's a look at the rest of the winners:

2nd Place - Kennedy Middle School PTO: Their $8,000 prize will be used for an 8th grade trip to Washington, DC.

3rd Place - Plympton School PTO: Their $6,000 prize will go to their Health and Wellness Council programming.

4th Place - Waltham Boys and Girls Club: The club was awarded $4,000, which will support the launch of World Arts.

5th Place - Waltham Land Trust: Their $2,000 grant will be used for the Western Greenway Project.

During the initial round, nominated charitable organizations in Waltham were asked to apply by April 22 with a detailed explanation of how the money would be used. Waltham residents were then asked to vote on which organizations they would like to see receive the grants. 

More than 2,600 votes were tallied to determine the winners.

Janelle Gee (Waltham YMCA), Jen Parad (Waltham YMCA), State Representative Tom Stanley, Nancy Stanton (Watch CDC), Kadi Tarlecky (Waltham YMCA), Shannon Juliano (MacArthur Elementary School PTO) attend the Waltham Charitable Giving Program hosted by the Belmont Savings Bank Foundation on June 9th at the Westin Waltham. Over 2,600 votes were tallied to award over $30,000 in grants from the Bank Foundation.

All of the organizations on the ballot were honored at a reception at the Waltham Westin Thursday night. In addition to the top five recipients, the following local charities were awarded with a $500 grant:
