Waltham Children Attend Teddy Bear Clinic

Joslin Center's hosted a special event to make learning about diabetes fun.

From Joslin Diabetes Center: Waltham residents including Peter Strzempek, Nusrat Shams and her son Reyham attended Joslin Diabetes Center’s 15th annual Teddy Bear Clinic recently, a fun, engaging event attended by more than 75 young Joslin patients living with type 1 diabetes to learn about diabetes. The event was staffed by teenage Joslin patient volunteers and students from local Boston area colleges. Each child at Joslin's clinic had the opportunity to pick a teddy bear, and learn how to care for their new friend as they made their rounds to the various medical stations with their bear’s medical record. Stations both in the Joslin lobby and atrium included measuring the bear’s height with a ruler, weighing their bear, taking its blood pressure, checking their bear’s blood sugar and give it insulin if needed, taking it grocery shopping for healthy foods and giving it an eye exam in the Joslin eye clinic.
