Waltham City Councilor To Get Inducted Into High School Hall Of Fame

Randy LeBlanc will be Inducted Into 2017 Minuteman High School Hall of Fame.

WALTHAM, MA - From City Councilor Randy LeBlanc: Randy LeBlanc, owner of the Waltham firm, LeBlanc Mechanical, will be inducted into the 2017 Minuteman High School Hall of Fame on November 3rd. He was chosen as a Distinguished Alumnus for his professional accomplishments, and outstanding community service.

After graduating from Waltham High School, LeBlanc attended an Open House at Minuteman with his father and was instantly excited about enrolling there. He completed the HVAC Post Graduate program in 1992, with the intention of creating his own heating and air conditioning business. He founded LeBlanc Mechanical in 1997.

While a student at Minuteman, he won a Gold Medal in the VICA United States Skill Olympics at the state level, and placed seventh on the national level. “I loved it,” he said of the intensive preparation for the contest. “I went after school to practice and studied harder than I ever did. It prepares you for your trade. It just helps you learn your Craft.”

LeBlanc has served as the chair of the HVAC Advisory Committee at Minuteman for over twenty years, as well as being a substitute teacher. As a former state certified vocational education teacher, he strongly supports career tech education and the growth of new programs. LeBlanc is also president of the Boston chapter of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society, an organization that provides training and certification in various aspects of the HVAC industry.

In his nominating letter, former City Councilor Ken Doucette wrote “It’s not surprising that I met Randy at a charity event. He simply has dedicated himself to the improvement of the community for the next generation. When I learned of the Minuteman Tech Hall of Fame Distinguished Alumni Award, I immediately thought of Randy and his efforts that reflect the mission and values of Minuteman Tech.”

In addition to continuously supporting his alma mater, LeBlanc participates extensively in the civic life of Waltham, receiving a Lions Club Waltham Hero Award in 2016 for Community Service. “Nothing is more rewarding to a teacher than to see a student succeed, and Randy LeBlanc is the epitome of success,” says Regina Pacitti, his Kennedy Junior High School English teacher.

LeBlanc is a member of the Waltham City Council, a member of Waltham West Suburban Chamber of Commerce and Waltham Local First. He also served on the Waltham Community Preservation Committee (CPC). LeBlanbc actively participates in the Waltham Fields Community Farm where he and his family maintain a garden and he strongly believes in the protection of the open spaces in the city.

Upon learning of the Award, LeBlanc said, “I am grateful that my training at Minuteman Tech prepared me for a life of service. Minuteman fosters life-long learning in both personal and professional development, and takes seriously its role of preparing students to become members of their respective communities.” John Maguire, Randy’s former Varsity Hockey coach, remembers Randy as “a person with a terrific personality who comes from a family that has instilled community involvement at an early age, so it’s no surprise to me to see Randy involved in many areas of the Waltham community. He’s doing a great job on our City Council and is a strong advocate for expanding our vocational educational programs. His recent Hall of Fame Award is most deserving.”

The Minuteman High School Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on Friday, November 3, from 6-10 PM, at the Montvale Plaza in Stoneham. Please call Sonia Vetrano at 781.861.6500x7241 for tickets and more information.
