Waltham City Employee Salaries: Who Made The Most In 2017?

Last year the usual suspects were among the highest paid city employees and there was even one woman (spoiler: It wasn't the mayor).

WALTHAM, MA —The police dominated the list of highest paid city employees in 2017, city data show. More than half of the top 100 earners came from the Police Department, followed by the Fire Department and City Hall employees and then School employees.

Five city employees earned more than $200,000 in 2017, according to city data obtained by Patch. Police Chief Keith MacPherson went home with the highest pay check of $217,696.88, which includes bonuses and state incentives in addition to his base salary.

MacPherson's base salary was actually second only to the base salary of Superintendent of Waltham Schools Superintendent Drew Echelson who earned a base salary of $208,316 and ended with a gross salary of $211,911.22.

What about the women you ask? With a woman at the city's helm, that's a good question.

Mayor Jeannette Mccarthy didn't make it into the top 10 or the top 20 highest earners. This year, only one woman cracked the top 10 highest when it came to base salary: Leanne Wilcinski, a school business manager for the superintendent's office had a base salary of $155,896. But she landed at No. 39 when it came to gross pay. Wilcinski began working for the City of Waltham in 1987, where she worked in the City Auditor’s Office until transferring to School Business Administrator in 2006.
