Waltham to Dedicate City Square to SFC Robert James Williams

Wiliams, a Vietnam veteran and multiple medal recipient, died last year at 75. The dedication ceremony will take place Saturday.

WALTHAM, MA – Waltham will dedicate a city square to SFC Robert James Williams on Saturday.

Williams, a New Jersey native, lived in Waltham for more than 50 years. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and received the Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the M-16 Sharpshooter Badge before retiring after 25 years of service, according to his obituary.

Williams was also actively involved in the Waltham community as a soup kitchen volunteer, a volunteer assistant at the Veterans Memorial Skating Rink, a Eucharistic minister and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He died last year at 75 after a battle with cancer.

Waltham will dedicate the square at the intersection of Berkley and Copeland streets to Williams on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 10 a.m. Mayor Jeannette McCarthy, elected officials and representatives of veterans groups will be on hand for the ceremony.
