Waltham Gets 2 Bomb Threats As Part Of Bitcoin Scam

Police said Waltham had at least two reported threats Thursday as part of the nationwide Bitcoin email scam.

WALTHAM, MA — Police confirmed to Patch that they recieved two reports of an emailed bomb threat to businesses in the city Thursday, as neighboring cities reported something similar.

The threats appear to be part of a nation-wide email threat scam being sent to businesses requesting bitcoin, according to police. Boston, Newton and Cambridge police also responded to threats.

The shopping center at 800 Lexington St, where the CVS and Staples are reported a threat at 1:29 p.m. and a at 3:21 p.m. the Nova Biomedical complex at 200 Prospect St. reported a threat, police told Patch.

Police declined to comment on the details of the response from the companies to the threats, but said proper actions and precautions were taken by both for the circumstances.

Waltham Police said they are working with state and federal agencies.
