Waltham Land Trust Donates 180 Boxes of Granola Bars

The local environmental non-profit group had a surplus of granola bars they were happy to provide to students and folks in need.

On March 19, 2020, the Waltham Land Trust (WLT) was pleased to donate 180 boxes of Nature Valley crunchy granola bars to local food-relief efforts in Waltham. The WLT requested and received an extremely large number of granola bars directly from Nature Valley last June to help volunteers celebrate National Trails Day. The granola bars soon became a staple item at every WLT event. When it was announced that schools would be closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the WLT reached out to Mayor McCarthy and fellow Waltham non-profit, Healthy Waltham, to see where the bars would be most appreciated. Contacts at Waltham public schools and public housing were provided, and Executive Director Sonja Wadman and WLT mascot "Hooty the Donation Owl" loaded up Sonja's car. The duo made drops at Waltham High School and the main offices of the Waltham Housing Authority. Hooty, a "piggy bank" of sorts and fixture at WLT programs where the non-profit seeks small contributions, was happy to be on the giving side of the donation equation for once.
