WALTHAM, MA — A Waltham man faces charges out of Boston after police found him with hundreds of fraudulent checks during a traffic stop.

At about 5:50 p.m. on Oct. 17, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested O’Keif Mark, 22, of Waltham, for receiving stolen property.

Officials said officers were on patrol in the area of Warren Street when they conducted an "inquiry of a vehicle that was wanted for an incident in Brookline." Officers immediately activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.

They tried to make contact with Mark, who refused to roll down his window and locked all the doors. Officers requested multiple times for him to roll down his window, and he eventually did.

Mark was asked to leave the vehicle and, after initially declining to do so, eventually got out but tried to leave the scene on foot. Officers tried to stop him and a "struggle ensued," police said.

During a search, police found three envelopes that had multiple checks with different names on them. The search also found a BB gun, HEET water removed and three bottles of brake fluid. The latter two items are used to wash ink off of checks, police said.

In total, officers seized about 236 fraudulent checks which were valued at $389,808.

Mark was placed under arrest and charged with receiving stolen property over $1,200, and threats to commit a crime. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
