Waltham Man Wins $1 Million In MA Lottery

Here's what he said he's going to do with the money.

WALTHAM, MA — Brian Sweet of Waltham walked into the Kristina Variety on Warren Street and walked out with a $1 million ticket, the Massachusetts State Lottery announced recently.

He's the 32nd person to score the $1 million prize from the State Lottery’s “200X” instant game. The scratch card game costs about $30 per ticket. No word on how many times Sweet purchased said tickets before snagging the winner.

Sweet chose the cash option on his prize and received a one-time payment taxes already taken out of $650,000. He told the lotto that he plans to use part of his winnings to plan his wedding and purchase a home.

Kristina Variety, meanwhile will receive a $10,000 bonus for its sale of the ticket.

Two $15,000,000 prizes and 46 $1,000,000 prizes are still available in the $30 “200X” instant game, according to the state lottery folks.

In May 1974, Massachusetts became the first state to sell instant lottery tickets as an alternative to the weekly jackpot game. “The Instant Game” was the first instant ticket, with a top instant prize of $10,000.
