Waltham Parents Sign Petition in Support of New High School

As the city decides between improving the current school or building another, some Waltham residents say it's time for a new one.

WALTHAM, MA – It's time for a change at Waltham High School – that much is certain.

What isn't certain is just how drastic those changes will be. Currently, the school committee and school building committee in Waltham are mulling over plans to either improve the current school or build a new one altogether.

As the process moves forward – just last week, members of the school committee stood along property owned by WPS to illustrate the boundaries of a new school – several parents and members of community have signed an online petition in support of constructing a new Waltham High School.

To date, the petition has garnered 324 of its 1,000-signature goal.

"In recent years Waltham has made a significant investment in improving the elementary schools and it has clearly made a positive difference," the petition reads. "It is now time to make the same investment in Waltham's high school."

At the crux of the signees' argument is the belief that even with renovations and improvements, the current high school would not be able to accommodate the needs of this generation of students.

What do you think? Does Waltham need a new high school or would improvements to its current one be enough? Let us know in the comments or on Facebook.
