Waltham Police To Go In Undercover To Check Bars

The police are making their annual check to make sure liquor establishments aren't serving underage kids.

(Shuttershock)

From The Waltham Police Department: The Waltham Police Department will be conducting annual Alcohol Compliance Checks at restaurants, bars, and package stores in the city.

The compliance check will involve sending underage youth into liquor establishments. The youth will then attempt the purchase of an alcoholic beverage. The underage youth will possess their authentic Massachusetts Under 21 Driver’s License on their person. If the youth is asked for identification he or she will be instructed to present their authentic Massachusetts Under 21 Driver’s License. The intent of this compliance check is to ensure that questionably aged youth who enter licensed establishments attempting the purchase of alcoholic beverages will be asked to produce identification and that the identification produced is actually scrutinized by their staff.

Alcohol Compliance Checks will also involve the Waltham Plainclothes Officers entering bars and restaurants and spot-checking the identification of those persons who appear to be under the age of 21 who are consuming alcohol. The Plainclothes Officers will be in possession of devices assisting them in the detection of fake identification cards and licenses. Any Liquor establishments found in violation will be reported to the Waltham License Commission.
