Waltham Police's Gun Buyback Nets 46 Firearms

The buyback was Saturday, Sept. 20.

The following is from the Waltham Police Department.

On Saturday, September 20, 2014, the Waltham Police conducted their first Gun BuyBack Program at the American Legion, 215 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham. A total of 46 guns were turned in, 19 of them being handguns. Participants were awarded gift cards by the Watertown Savings Bank in the amounts of $50 for a rifle or shotgun, $100 for a working handgun and $200 for an assault weapon.

The Gun BuyBack Program was conducted in partnership with the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office who are supporting local communities in conducting Gun BuyBack Programs. All firearms turned in are destroyed. Funding for this gun buyback program was provided by the U.S. Department of Justice Department Asset Forfeiture program.
