Waltham Public Input Meeting on Liquor Licenses Tonight

The License and Franchise Committee will seek community input on a hotly contested proposal to increase the number of liquor licenses.

WALTHAM, MA - The Waltham License and Franchise Committee will hold a public input meeting tonight about a proposed special act to provide 30 additional liquor licenses to the City.

The proposal is an attempt to override the quota system, which places a limited number of liquor licenses on a city, according to Chairman of the License Committee Wayne Brasco. He said it would allow new businesses to open in Waltham without having to purchase a license from an existing holder.

But the plan has been lambasted by some of Waltham's restaurant and bar owners, who say the additional licenses would decrease the value of their own.
