Waltham RadioShack Closing

The Waltham location is one of 1,700 stores closing following a company announcement.

The Waltham RadioShack is closing. The more than 90-year-old company announced last week it filed for bankruptcy protection and announced a list of store closures.

The Waltham RadioShack is located at 1077 Lexington St.

Stores on the closure list are expected to sell their remaining inventory,according to a statement from the company. Many stores have been reported to have started sales immediately following the announcement.

General Wireless has agreed to acquire between 1,500 and 2,400 of RadioShack’s U.S. Company-owned stores, while General Wireless has agreed in principle on terms with Sprint to establish a new dedicated mobility “store within a store” retail presence in up to 1,750 of the acquired stores.

RadioShack currently has approximately 4,000 company owned stores in the U.S. Its more than 1,000 dealer franchise stores in 25 countries, the stores operated by its Mexican subsidiary, and its Asia operations are not included in the Chapter 11 filing or the agreements announced last week.

“These steps are the culmination of a thorough process intended to drive maximum value for our stakeholders,” RadioShack CEO Joe Magnacca said.

Massachusetts stores slated to close include: Hadley, North Attleboro, Saugus, Brockton, Plymouth, Worcester, New Bedford, Fall River, Swansea, North Dartmouth, Webster, South Boston, Dedham, Haverhill, Peabody, Marlborough, Waltham, Whitinsville, Leominster, Springfield, Gardner, Westborough, Medford, Boston, Braintree, Cambridge, Sudbury, Hyannis and Holyoke.
