Waltham School Committee Approves Next Year's Budget

The new budget totals approximately $67 million.

The Waltham School Committee has approved its $67 million fiscal 2013 budget.

The committee approved the budget after a lengthy debate at its Wednesday, April 25 meeting at . Now, the budget goes to the City Council for final approval as part of the entire city budget.

The committee made several changes to the budget before approving it.

The changes include:

  • An additional $257,271 for personnel costs related to the
  • An additional $116,000 to fund the
  • An additional $43, 209 for paraprofessional in the newly approved teachers contract.
  • Also, the committee added $1,000 to start a junior National Honors Society at the John F. Kennedy Middle School.

Also, School Committee member Teddy Tarallo motioned for an additional 25,000 restore the cut in the amount of high school nurses from 3 to 2.5, but it failed.
