Waltham Students Head Back To School: What To Know
From important dates to links to meetings and supplies and the lunch menu, here's what to know as you or your child heads back to school.
WALTHAM, MA — It's that time again. School is right around the corner and in all corners of Waltham students are getting their last days of vacation in and some are even starting to think about what to wear that first day back at school. When is that? It's Tuesday, Aug. 28. But there are other questions that pop up along with that big one.
So, as school gets ready to get into full swing here are some important facts in numbers:
Tuesday, Aug. 28: School starts (see the rest of the calendar here: Waltham School Calendar 2018-19)
10: The number of schools in Waltham: That includes seven elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school.
40: The number of new teachers in the district this year. "This number is slightly down from previous years because we had fewer resignations," said Superintendent Drew Echelson in an email to Patch.
The number of students enrolled this year isn't yet clear, as folks are still enrolling.

What's new this year?
There are two new principals in the district:

- Rochelle Nwosu is the new principal at the Dual Language School.
- Paul Maiorano (Asst Superintendent) is on special assignment as the interim Waltham High School Principal. You can learn more here:
There's an ongoing search for the next high school principal, read about the screening committee for the WHS principal here.
The only construction project is that the new MacArthur playground is slated to be completed on or before October 1.
