Waltham Unemployment Dropped Last Month

Unemployment rates fell in Waltham last month, according to newly released data.

Unemployment fell to 4.7 percent from 5.6 percent in February, according to data from the state Department of Labor & Workforce released on Tuesday, April 24.

Overall, 33,571 Waltham residents are now employed as of last month, up from 33,298 in February.

The drop mirrors the statewide decrease in unemployment. Statewide, unemployment rates fell to 6.4 percent from 7.5 percent. Unemployment fell in all labor areas, according to the DOL.

Waltham’s trend mirrors Newton’s labor statistics. Newton’s unemployment rate dropped to 4.3 percent from 4.2 percent in February, according to the data. Watertown’s unemployment rates also dropped, to 4.9 percent from 5.2 percent.
