Waltham Water Main Replacement Project: What You Need to Know

Work has begun to replace the water main along Bear Hill Road and Second Avenue. Here's what to know about driving in the area.

WALTHAM, MA – Work has begun to replace the water main along Bear Hill Road and Second Avenue. The project involves installing a temporary bypass water main and replacing approximately 8,000 feet of water main, 18 fire hydrants and water services to buildings. Yeah, it's a lot.

The project will be broken up into two phases – the first will run from 50 Bear Hill Road to the intersection of Bear Hill and Second Avenue. The second runs down Second Avenue from Bear Hill Road to the intersection of Winter Street.

Daytime work will take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Nighttime hours are 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. During daytime hours there will be one traffic lane open in each direction; at night, the road will be closed to one lane with alternating flow of traffic.
