Waltham's Global Partners Raises $21K For Local Food Banks

The company sponsored Mark & Mocha's Roll/Stroll to Combat Hunger, a project launched to raise money for those who need food assistance.

WALTHAM, MA — The Waltham-based company Global Partners LP has raised $21,116 for Mark & Mocha's Roll/Stroll to Combat Hunger, a project launched to raise money for Save the Children and four local food banks.

The project, called "4Paws4Wheels4Hunger," began on Sept. 18 when Mark Roberts of Stow, Massachusetts headed out in his electric wheelchair with his six-year-old labradoodle Mocha to roll across the state to raise awareness and funds to combat hunger.

After seven weeks and a fundraising goal of $100,000, Roberts’ finished the journey on Nov. 7, but not before rolling past Global Partners’ headquarters in Waltham.

“Seeing Mark and Mocha pass Global headquarters in Waltham was truly inspiring,” said Eric Slifka, President and CEO of Global Partners, in a statement. “Hunger is such an important issue in our local community, and we were excited to join Mark in his fight against food insecurity.”

As part of Global Partners’ sponsorship of the fourth week of Mark & Mocha’s roll/stroll, the company collected $13,611 at its Massachusetts retail stores in just under five weeks, matched $2,500 in donations made by employees and facilitated a $2,500 donation from distributor J. Polep.

In addition, Global Partners provided Alltown Fresh provisions for Mark, Mocha and the team during the sponsored week and invited employees to join the walk.

“I’m appreciative of Global’s sponsorship and their help to combat the rising issue of hunger,” said Roberts in a statement. “It’s important to do what we can to support our communities.
