Waltham's RTN Federal Credit Union Awards $10K In Scholarships
This year's winners are Lily Shaughnessy, Julia Terra-Salomão, and Kimberly-Ann Lang.
WALTHAM, MA — RTN Federal Credit Union in Waltham has announced the 2021 recipients of its James A. Burley, Jr. Scholarship Awards, which are presented annually to three students and total $10,000.
This year's winners are Lily Shaughnessy, a student at Quinnipiac University who received the top award of $5,000, Brown University student Julia Terra-Salomão who earned $3,000, and Kimberly-Ann Lang, who was given $2,000 and will be attending Worcester State University in the fall.
“The Burley Scholarship reflects our investment in the next generation of Credit Union members,” said RTN Treasurer and CEO Richard Wright in a statement. “As the COVID-19 pandemic has createdadditional challenges for students and families, RTN is proud to play a role in helping to make highereducation more financially accessible for our member families.”

The award, named in honor of RTN’s late Chairman and Director James A.Burley, Jr., is given to RTN members or dependents of members who are enrolled in an undergraduate or post-high school technical college. Scholarship recipients are selected based on an essay, with this year's topic being, “Describe how COVID-19 has impacted your education and social life.”
RTN is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative with nearly 50,000 members and 18 branches. The credit union serves more than 1,100 sponsor groups, Raytheon Technologies and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
