Waltham's ShenaniGanns Join WGBH's 'Sing That Thing!'

WALTHAM, MA – ShenaniGanns, a choral group from Gann Academy in Waltham will join WGBH's "Sing That Thing!" this year for the amateur singing competition's third season.

This year's competition features 18 New England teams, representing genres from Top 40, to Renaissance, to jazz, who will vie for the championship title. Groups are divided into three categories – high school, collegiate and adult – and must perform for coaches who choose the top groups.

"Enthusiastic voices from a wide range of musical genres will bring their talents to New England audiences again this spring," co-executive producer Patricia Alvarado Nuñez said in a statement. "The artistry, harmonies and showmanship of the groups will delight fans of Sing That Thing!."

This season's coaches are Anthony Trecek-King, president and artistic director of the Boston Children’s Chorus, Annette Philip, a vocalist, composer/arranger and faculty member at Berklee College of Music, winner of the 2014 national Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Championship with her quartet, Women of the World and Jared Bowen, WGBH News executive arts editor, hosts WGBH’s Open Studio with Jared Bowen, Boston television’s only local arts series.

"Sing That Thing! has truly demonstrated the power of song to unite people from many backgrounds in creating transformative music," Liz Cheng, WGBH’s general manager for television and co-executive producer of Sing That Thing!, said in a statement. "This uplifting program has earned audiences of all ages throughout New England."
