AG Determines Wayland Finance Committee Violated OML
The attorney general received two related complaints alleging that the Wayland Finance Committee violated the Open Meeting Law.

After reviewing two related complaints that were originally filed with the attorney general’s office on Nov. 7, 2014, it was determined that the Wayland Finance Committee violated the Open Meeting Law.
George Harris followed up the first complaint with another on Dec. 23, 2014. The committee responded to both.
In his complaints, Harris alleged that the committee failed to conduct a review of the executive session minutes in the manner required by law, failed to record roll call votes in executive session minutes, failed to provide certain minutes that were alleged to be missing and failed to respond to a request for executive session minutes within the timeframe required by law.

In its determination, the AG’s office wrote, “Following our review, we find that the Committee violated the Open Meeting Law in several of the ways alleged. In reaching a determination, we reviewed the original complaints; the Committee’s responses; and the requests for further review filed with our office. We also reviewed all documents included with these complaints and responses. We also examined executive session minutes for twelve meeting dates from the period between January 2007 and September 2009.”
