Child Bitten By Raccoon At Wayland Town Beach, Police Warn

WAYLAND, MA — A child in Wayland was bitten by a raccoon at the Wayland Town Beach.

The Wayland Police Department warned the public on Sunday of the bite incident on Parkland Drive. The child was taken to the hospital, where they received appropriate medical treatment, police said.

Wayland police said officers searched the area after the incident but had not located the animal as of the notice, and will continue checking the area over the next several days.

Boston25 News spoke to the child's family, who turns two in August. He was on an afternoon playdate on Friday with his nanny when the raccoon attacked him, the news outlet reported.

Wayland police urged residents not to approach or feed raccoons or other wildlife and to keep a safe distance from any animal acting abnormally, including those that appear disoriented, aggressive or active during daylight hours. Police also said children and pets should be kept away from wild animals and that anyone bitten or scratched by a wild animal should seek medical attention immediately.

Police have not yet confirmed whether they located the animal.
