Lucas Alvarado will perform as a bassist for a popular musician.

WAYLAND, MA — A Wayland native will be on stage at one of New York City’s major summer music festivals next month.

Lucas Alvarado, a Berklee student and Wayland native, will perform as the bassist for JimmyBoy at Governors Ball in New York City on Saturday, Jun. 6, through the Berklee Popular Music Institute. The festival is scheduled for Jun. 5 to 7 at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, according to Live Nation.

JimmyBoy, a Cuban-born and Puerto Rico-raised reggaeton rapper, vocalist and producer, is among eight Berklee-affiliated artists selected for major festival performances this year through BPMI, according to Berklee. Berklee said the 2026 BPMI artists are scheduled to appear at 11 festivals across the United States, Canada and Europe.

The Governors Ball performance is part of BPMI Live, a yearlong Berklee course that prepares students for work in live music and major festival production, according to the college. Berklee said the program guides students through artist selection, artist development, marketing, budgets, merchandise, sponsorships, production, promotion and tour management.

Unlike most Berklee classes, BPMI Live runs across three semesters. In the fall, students select artists and form management teams. In the spring, they work on artist development and festival preparation. In the summer and early fall, teams rehearse with artists and travel to festivals to handle on-site promotion, production and tour duties.

Berklee said JimmyBoy’s Governors Ball set will also include production visuals and lighting designed by students in BerkleeNYC’s Live Music Production and Design program.

Governors Ball’s 2026 lineup includes more than 60 artists across three stages, according to Live Nation. The festival’s headliners include Lorde, Stray Kids and A$AP Rocky.
