WAYLAND, MA — Wayland Public Schools are set to receive $50,000 for wellness and recreational improvements under the Legislature’s fiscal 2027 state budget.
An earmark from Rep. David P. Linsky (D-5th Middlesex) would support wellness and recreational enhancements at Wayland High School and Happy Hollow Elementary School, the legislator announced on Thursday. This comes as lawmakers approved a $63.4 billion compromise budget Wednesday.
Rep. Linsky, who represents Natick and Wayland, said he was pleased with the number of local earmarks included in the budget, as well as increased Chapter 70 school aid and unrestricted local aid for the district.
Chapter 70 is the state’s main aid program for public elementary and secondary schools and also sets minimum school spending requirements for districts and municipalities, according to the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
“This additional local funding will be critical in supporting our communities’ local programs and initiatives throughout FY27, and I look forward to seeing the impact of this funding increase,” Rep. Linsky said in a statement.
The Legislature’s budget page said Thursday that the final budget was not yet available because the governor still has 10 days to review it and act on it.
