WAYLAND, MA — Wayland is among a number of Massachusetts communities to receive a large federal grant for safety.

"These funds will allow our local public safety officials to identify and address the most pressing traffic safety issues in our communities in collaboration with local community nonprofits and relevant state agencies, ensuring that our neighborhoods remain safe, secure, and efficient in their programming," Rep. Linsky wrote in the announcement.

The award is part of $13 million in federal traffic safety funding distributed across Massachusetts. The money comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and is administered by the state Executive Office of Public Safety and Security's Office of Grants and Research.

"We want to make Massachusetts roads the safest they can be for residents, families, workers and everyone who travels through our communities," said Governor Maura Healey. "These investments will give police departments the enforcement tools, training, technology and resources they need to prevent crashes before they happen, address dangerous driving and ultimately save lives."

Wayland police did not immediately respond to a request for more information on how they will use the funding.
