WAYLAND, MA — Three new firefighter-paramedics joined the Wayland Fire Department's ranks as two veteran members stepped into new leadership roles this week.
The Select Board recognized James Sykes, Clare Moloney and Cullen Millerick as new firefighter-paramedics during its Monday night meeting at Town Building. Meanwhile, Mitchell Mabardy was promoted to lieutenant and Kenneth McGuire was promoted to captain, the Wayland Fire Department announced.
The ceremony was part of the board's regularly scheduled 6 p.m. meeting.
New FF/paramedic Sykes was part of a Massachusetts Firefighting Academy graduating class earlier this year. He was part of Career Recruit Training Class 335, a class of 28 firefighters who graduated in Stow in January after 10 weeks of foundation training.
Meanwhile, McGuire began serving as a Wayland call firefighter in 2002 and became a full-time firefighter in 2006, according to a previous town announcement. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2012.
"Congratulations! And thank you for your service and commitment to serving and protecting our community!," the town wrote in its announcement.
