Big Crowd Shuts Down Wayland ZBA Hearing for Monster 40B Apartment Complex!

The Wayland ZBA hearing for the 40B Monster apartment complex was shut down due to an overflow crowd of concerned Wayland residents.

Amazing turnout for the first Wayland Zoning Board of Appeals hearing on the Monster apartment complex overwhelmed the capacity of the 'large' hearing room in Wayland's Town Building on Thursday night, 22 August. Despite summer vacations, more than 150 Wayland residents packed the room which filled to standing-room-only -- with the crowd extending out into the hall.

Board Chair Eric Goldberg quickly conferred with the Town's legal counsel and ZBA members, and decided to open and immediately close the 40B hearing. Then he made a statement to the audience: this was his last night with the ZBA after years of service, and he had never seen such a large crowd for any ZBA hearing, ever!

The next hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday, 26 September at 7pm, in the much larger auditorium at Wayland High School. If you are concerned about more traffic, an ugly Walmart size building (literally!) in Wayland, serious environmental impacts, and harm to the Wayland community and property values, be there!

Here is how this Monster would look on Route 20 -- 477 feet long, 130 feet wide and three stories tall. This would be the largest building along Route 20 for 35 miles, from Worcester to Watertown:
