Brush Fire Burns Quarter-Acre Near Lake Cochituate In Wayland
Firefighters contained a brush fire near Lake Cochituate after flames spread into surrounding trees.
WAYLAND, MA — Firefighters contained a brush fire near Lake Cochituate after flames spread into surrounding trees on Thursday evening, according to the Wayland Fire Department.
The fire burned about a quarter-acre in an area known as “The Wall,” reaching trees approximately 20 feet above the ground. Wayland firefighters and mutual aid departments responded during the evening and worked to prevent the fire from spreading further.
Lake Cochituate is a 635-acre lake located off Routes 9 and 30 where Framingham, Natick and Wayland meet. The lake has three connected basins, and much of its shoreline is within Cochituate State Park.
The department did not identify the mutual aid agencies involved or say what caused the fire.
Officials warned that dry conditions can cause brush and forest fires to spread quickly and urged residents to use caution with outdoor fires.
