Celtics’ Assistant Coach Walter McCarty has until Dec. 31 to make good on a payment for work done at a home he is building in Wayland.

NECN reports that a judge ruled McCarty must pay about $20,000 to a contractor who installed cabinets at his house and, in exchange, a larceny charge against him will be dropped. Prosecutors say McCarty wrote an $18,000 check for work, but that check bounced.

TheScore.com said that McCarty and his lawyer have maintained the situation was a “misunderstanding and banking issue.”

McCarty paid $12,000 for about $30,000-worth of cabinets, but authorities the check for the balance bounced and requests from the contractor to resolve the issue had been ignored.
