Conservation Visitor Makes an Unexpected Find

Wayland Police have sent images of her find to the state lab.

Wayland Police recovered three small bones over the course of two days after a woman at the Loker Conservation Area discovered them during visits.

Chief Bob Irving said police suspect the bones to be animal, but scanned them and emailed the images to the state lab for determination.

"They will look at it and decide if they need further investigation," Irving said. "If they need to look at them more closely, we’ll take them over there."

On Dec. 15, a woman at the Loker Conservation Area contacted police to report finding two bones. The next afternoon, the same person reported finding a third bone.

Irving said the police "every once in awhile" receive calls of people discovering bones. Even though those bones almost always turn out to be animal, Irving said he is glad people report it.

Irving said the department hopes to hear back from the lab in the next week or so.

“If you see anything suspicious – whether it be a bone or something else – you’re best bet is noting where it is and contacting police," Irving said. "If by some chance it is a crime scene, the less disturbed it is the better.”
