It’s a holiday weekend, and sitting at a desk taking notes is the last thing on students’ minds. But the start of the new school year will be here before you know it, and below are some important dates for the Wayland Public Schools.

• Aug. 31, all staff returns for school preparation
• Sept. 1, 6th and 9th grade orientation
• Sept. 2, first day of classes
• Sept. 4, no school
• Sept. 7, no school
• Sept. 10, back to school night, 7-9 p.m., Wayland High School
• Sept. 14, Rosh Hashanah, no school
• Sept. 23, Yom Kippur, no school
• Oct. 12, Columbus Day, no school
