Accepting the reality of human-induced climate change requires accepting human responsibility for effective preventive action. Fusion is one way of creating energy without using fossil fuels. Are current programs likely to succeed? Are there other measures that can improve the odds? Is Fusion Energy from ordinary water just a pipe dream? And can it happen in time to make a difference? As Humanists, we believe that “it is up to us” to make a difference. Join this timely and critical discussion.

Dr. Beeuwkes’ basement cyclotron helped him win first place in the 1958 Westinghouse (now Intel) Science Talent Search. He later earned his B.S. at MIT and his PhD at Harvard and has held a faculty position at Harvard Medical School. He is an active scientist, entrepreneur and conservationist with many publications and patents. He has no financial interest in any part of the fusion energy effort but is a concerned citizen.
