Letter: Supporting Downs for School Committee

To the Editor,

It is with great pleasure that we write this letter in support of Jeanne Downs for School Committee.

We met Jeanne several years ago when our daughter began swimming for the Wayland Jr. Warriors.  As most of you know, it has become one of our town’s largest and most successful youth sports organizations.  Its success is a direct result of Jeanne Downs’ dedication, leadership and passion to make the program better every year for our children.  The program has become the envy of surrounding communities.

Jeanne and her husband Ben have been Wayland residents for over 20 years, and their four children educated by the Wayland Public Schools.  Jeanne has consistently been a tireless volunteer in our schools, first as PTO President at Claypit Hill when her children were young, and later as PTO President at the High School.  Anyone who knows Jeanne admires her integrity, her intelligence and her commitment to the betterment of our community. 

In a society where many boast of their accomplishments, Jeanne is humble.  While most persist on talking in order to be heard, she is patient and listens.  In a time when many of us complain we are too busy to get involved, Jeanne has a long history of serving our community.  Jeanne’s selflessness and character is inspiring and should be emulated by all of us.  Although other candidates may have a passion about Wayland, you’d be hard pressed to find someone with her experience, leadership qualities and knowledge.  Clearly, there is no better candidate.
