Looking Back on 2011: Top 5 Wayland Police Stories

We continue our journey through the top headlines of 2011 with a look today at the top five police stories of the year.

The stories below are presented in no particular order.

1. Lauren Dunne Astley (multiple dates)
In July, the body of Lauren Astley, a Wayland High School Class of 2011 graduate, was found in Wayland near the Sudbury border. Her ex-boyfriend, Nathaniel Fujita, was subsequently arrested and is awaiting trial.

2. (Nov. 16)
Wayland Police announced that 13-year-old Allie Loftis had been found safe by police in New Jersey after she ran away from her Wayland home 12 days earlier.

3. (April 19)
Wayland Police Det. Christopher Cohen sustained injuries to his hand and arm while responding to a domestic disturbance.

4. (Sept. 14)
Wayland Police arrested four individuals suspected of committing multiple vehicle break-ins in Wayland and surrounding towns after a “Find My iPhone” app on a stolen phone led officers directly to one of the suspects.

5. (March 11)
Police charged four individuals with larceny and conspiracy to commit a crime after more than $1,300-worth of electronic toothbrushes were stolen from the Wayland CVS.
