Mansion Beach Closed Because of Elevated E. coli Levels

Mansion Beach is closed until further notice because of elevated E. coli levels.

Mansion Beach is closed until further notice because of elevated E.coli levels.

The slightly elevated E. coli levels are likely a result of Waterfowl excrement washed into the pond during last weekend’s rains, according to the Wayland Surface Water Quality Committee’s Facebook page.

The Wayland Health Department has closed Mansion Beach in previous years for elevated E. coli levels, most likely because of animal waste from household pets and Waterfowl, according to a 2011 Patch article. Visitors are encouraged to clean up after their pets and refrain from feeding the birds.

Although Mansion Beach is not a public swimming beach, it is still used by residents on occasion, according to the article.
