Did you know that suicide is the 10th leading cause of death nationwide? Or that one in four Americans will struggle with mental illness in their lifetimes? Suicide and mental illness affect ALL of us. Please join us on Monday, November 18 at 7:30 p.m. at First Parish in Wayland (225 Boston Post Road) for a discussion titled “Talk Saves Lives.”

The session will be led by well-known radio personality David O’Leary of Magic 106.7, who speaks frequently on the topic. David serves as co-chair of the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and also serves on its Chapter Leadership Council. We will explore the prevalence of suicide, warning signs and prevention, and how each of us might open our ears and hearts to people who are struggling with emotional concerns to the point of considering suicide.

David presented this workshop recently to our congregation. Based on the positive feedback from attendees, we are offering it to the wider community, with the support of the congregation’s Lydia Maria Child Fund. There will be light refreshments and chance to chat with other members of the community afterward.
