WAYLAND, MA — Welcome to the Labor Day edition of Monday Manual, where we highlight important events coming up during the week (plus a local fact) in seven Patch communities between Framingham and Worcester.

This week we're starting in Wayland, which is no stranger to flooding. Although we all feel pretty soaked after Fred, Henri and Ida, Wayland experienced significant flooding in 2010 during a series of winter storms. The area along Pelham Island Road was so inundated, duck boats from Boston had to come to the rescue of residents.

1) Wayland

Wayland became the latest local library to eliminate late fees recently. The town joins libraries in Hopkinton, Natick's Morse Institute Library and Worcester getting rid of most late fines, which many library experts believe keep low-income patrons away.

2) Framingham

Framingham will host its usual 9/11 memorial ceremony at Cushing Memorial Park this year, the 20th anniversary of the attacks. Seventeen people with ties to Framingham died in the attacks along with nearly 3,000 other people.

3) Marlborough

Marlborough's traditional Labor Day parade is back this year after a coronavirus hiatus. The (usually) annual event has been around since the 1950s, when it was stared by a previous mayor following World War II and the Korean War. The parade steps off at noon in downtown Marlborough.

4) Sudbury

A sure sign autumn is around the corner: Longfellow's Wayside Inn will hold its 6th annual cider fest. The event will feature fresh-squeezed cider and a pig roast courtesy of Firefly BBQ. Proceeds benefit the restoration of the Wayside Inn Cider Mill.

5) Worcester

The Worcester preliminary election is Sept. 14, but early voting will begin on Tuesday. Voters in either District 5 or District 1 will pick the City Council candidates who will advance to the primary. Early voting lasts until Sept. 10. Find your polling place here.

6) Milford

A Team Mickey Ward motorcycle rally will gather at the Italian-American War Veterans hall along Hayward Field. Bikers will stop at Waterfront Mary's in Webster and the Southside Bar and Grille before returning to the hall. Proceeds go toward colon cancer.

7) Natick

The Natick Mall is entering the second week of its September-to-October "Mall Together Sweepstakes." This week, visitors can enter for the chance to win a $2,000 gift card to any restaurant in the mall.
