News Recap: A Synopsis of News Related to Wayland Teen's Death
There was a lot of information spread out over a couple of days related to Lauren Astley's murder. We've collected a synopsis full of links here.

Over the past few days, Patch has kept up with the news of and investigation surrounding 18-year-old Lauren Astley’s death. Realizing that some of that information is spread out over several articles, we’ve collected below a recap of what we’ve learned so far in an investigation that District Attorney Gerry Leone calls “fluid.”
; July 4, 9 a.m.
At this point, we know a body has been found but little else.
; July 4, 12:45 p.m.
Foul play is suspected and state police have been called to the scene. Meanwhile, WHDH-TV is reporting that Malcolm Astley had reported his daughter missing the night before and police weren’t ruling out the body was hers.

; July 4, 5:54 p.m.
CBS Boston and NECN report that Malcolm Astley has confirmed the body discovered on Water Row is his daughter, Lauren. CBS Boston also reports that Lauren left her job at the Natick Collection around 6:45 p.m. Sunday and appeared “happy.”
; July 4, 7 p.m.
A press contact for the district attorney’s office says the delay in officially identifying the body is because qualified personnel were not available at the medical examiner’s office.

; July 4, 7:45 p.m.
DA Gerry Leone confirms the identity of Lauren Astley and also declares the death a homicide.
; July 4, 8 p.m.
Friends and family head to First Parish Wayland for a candlelight vigil for Astley. Press is not allowed inside.
; July 5
Police arrest Nathaniel Fujita, 18, of Wayland and charge him with Astley’s murder. The arrest was made around 2 a.m. at his aunt’s house in Framingham.
; July 5, 11:15 a.m.
Fujita arrives at Framingham District Court for his arraignment.
; July 5, 3 p.m.
A plea of not guilty is entered on Fujita's behalf. Judge Robert Greco orders Fujita held without bail after details of the crime emerge during the arraignment.
, July 5, 4 p.m.
Astley’s father, Malcolm, after the arraignment says, “Lauren's mother and I share the anguish of Nate's parents.”
; July 5, 6 p.m.
Leone tells reporters during a news conference that Astley died from a combination of strangulation by ligature and an incise wound to the neck. He calls the case an act of teen dating violence.
; July 6, 10 a.m.
Officials and residents of the town react to the news of the past few days and work toward helping one another cope.
