Rail Trail Update: Friends of the Trail Look for Funding From Preservation Committee

The Friends of the Wayland Rail Trail said it has overwhelming support at all levels.

Friends of the Wayland Rail Trail met with the Wayland Community Preservation Committee (CPC) last month to discuss providing funds to construct the trail across the three miles in Wayland.

“We think we have a highly valued and much needed greenway,” said the update. “We have overwhelming support at all levels.”

“The next step is to develop a more detailed estimate of costs,” said Larry Kiernan, representative for the Friends of the Wayland Rail Trail. “If we stay on the right track (pun intended) the Rail Trail could be built in 2015!”

The Friends want to transform the abandoned rail corridor in Wayland into a recreational asset for residents to use for walking, jogging, biking, cross country skiing or horseback-riding. They are working to improve the existing informal trail, pave or stone dust the three miles in Wayland, and also support the 104-mile Mass. Central Rail Trail.
