Readers Ask, 'When Do They Spray for Mosquitoes in Wayland?'
You might want to pick up one of those bug zappers.
Readers have been asking Patch, 'Do you know when Wayland conducts mosquito spraying in town?"
The short answer: it doesn't. At least there is nothing scheduled.Â
Spraying is conducted and planned by the East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project, which posts its schedule at the end of each week for the following week. Starting June 9, for instance, spraying will take place in Sudbury, Bedford and North Reading.Â
"The decision on areas to spray in the cites and towns of the East Middlesex MCA that fund adult mosquito control is based on weekly mosquito trap data," said David Henley, superintendent of East Middlesex & Suffolk County Mosquito Control Projects. "Adult mosquito spraying is not a regular part of the mosquito control services that are provided to Wayland. If the Wayland Health Department decides that there is an imminent risk of mosquito borne disease, they will request spraying."Â
In August of 2013, the Wayland Board of Health, which was notified by the State Department of Health, informed residents that a mosquito in Wayland had tested positive for West Nile Virus. Obtained from a testing pool, the Board of Health said that it was not unusual for that time of year.Â
