Runaway Tire Hits Car on Pike in Wayland

One person has been sent to the hospital with 'serious injuries.'

A man has been sent to the hospital with serious injuries after a runaway tire from another car struck his, said Massachusetts State Police.

Around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, State Police responded to a report of a tire striking a vehicle on the Mass Pike westbound in Wayland.

According to police, 23-year-old John Tangjerd of London, Ontario, Canada, was traveling eastbound on Route 90 in his 1994 Lincoln MK8 when his left rear tire and rim came off the car, rolled across the median and hit the windshield of a 2002 Honda Accord that was traveling in the opposite direction.

Paul Robillard of Dudley was driving the Honda, and was transported to Beth Israel Hospital with serious injuries. Tangjerd was not injured, said, police.

This crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time. State Police were assisted on scene by members the Wayland Police DepartmentΒ and Weston and Natick Fire and EMS.
