Sales Tax Holiday Returns, Will You Buy Something?

A sales tax holiday is on the calendar for 2014, planned for the third weekend of August.

A sales tax holiday will again happen this summer in Massachusetts - scheduled for Aug. 16-17.

For two days, the 6.25 percent state sales tax will not be charged on purchases under $2,500.

The measure was part of an economic development bill that passed both the House and Senate this week, but still needs to be signed by Gov. Deval Patrick, according to a report by the State House News Service. There is no indication he won’t sign it.

During the 2012 sales tax holiday, the state government passed up on $23.3 million in sales tax revenue.

The sales tax holiday dates back to 2004 in Massachusetts and has happened annually.

Do you have a specific purchase planned for the sales tax holiday? If yes, what? If not, why? Tell us in the comments.
