Shop Local, Give Local

Russell's Garden Center has great gift items of, by and for the Wayland Community.

Still trying to determine a unique gift for someone on your list? This holiday season Russell’s is proud to offer the opportunity to not only buy local, but to also gift locally by celebrating Wayland – past and present. Here are several ways to connect your recipients to Wayland’s history and local lore.

In honor of Wayland’s 375th anniversary, Russell’s has the re-published and updated book “The Wayland Historical Tours”, plus the cookbook “375 Years and Still Cooking”, an anniversary collection of recipes from Wayland residents.

Also available is the newly released DVD “Five Miles Astride the River: The Story of Wayland” a film by Wayland residents Jacob Sussman and Zander Cowen. This twenty minute documentary which explores Wayland’s history was recently premiered at Wayland High School theatre and features local Wayland historians.

Does anyone on your list collect Byers’ Choice Carolers? Add a little bit of Wayland history with Russell’s own specially designed caroler representing Lewis Russell holding a Christmas tree. This traditional figurine is reminiscent of Lew’s forays to growers where he personally selects the trees that Russell’s offers for sale during the Holidays.

Finally Russell’s has the 2015 book selection of Wayland Reads “The Opposite of Loneliness” written by Wayland author Marina Keegan, available for purchase. Keegan died tragically in a car accident after graduating from Yale University in 2012, and her collection of short stories and essays was released by her family and published posthumously in 2014. This book will be read as part of the Wayland community event organized by the Wayland Public Library. Keegan’s book is a New York Times Bestseller and winner of the Best Nonfiction Book Category, 2014, on Goodreads.com. The WPL encourages Wayland residents to read Keegan’s book and participate in upcoming programs and discussions, beginning in March, 2015. Check Wayland Library’s website, http://www.waylandlibrary.org/ for more information regarding The Opposite of Loneliness, critically acclaimed by critics at home and abroad.
