Snow and Ice: How Much Does Wayland Spend?
Nearly half a million is designated for sanding, salting and plowing this winter. Will it be enough?

WAYLAND, MA -- If we are slammed like last winter, many towns and cities would be forced to dip into deficit spending or other sources of funding.
But it’s Mother Nature, and no one truly knows.
Wayland’s budget for snow and ice for the FY2015-2016 period is $450,000, which is the same as last year.

“By law, the snow budget is the only budget you can overspend,” said Stephen F. Kadlik III, DPW director. “If we do, we request a current year transfer at the spring Town Meeting.”
The snow and ice budget is broken into multiple line items, each with a specific appropriation. Sand and salt marks $180,000 of the budget, contractual services is $75,000, vehicle repairs $35000 and fuel $35,000.
