Suspect Allegedly Paid Court Fees with Stolen Debit Card

Wayland Police said a recently stolen debit card was used to pay outstanding court fees and make other purchases to the tune of nearly $1,200.
On Monday, Wayland Police arrested 24-year-old Angel Lopez of 15A Highland Ave., Watertown, on multiple charges related to the stolen card. Det. Sgt. Jamie Berger said Lopez is from Wayland and has had several run-ins with police, including an .
According to a police press release, a woman came into the Wayland Police station on Thursday, March 8, to report her debit card had been stolen.

In the investigation that followed, police learned that the woman made a purchase at on Wednesday, where Lopez worked as the cashier. Lopez allegedly handed the customer her receipt, but held on to her debit card after watching her enter her PIN to make the purchase.
The customer did not realize she hadn't received her card until the next day. By then, police allege, Lopez had used the card to withdraw $500 from the ATM at TD Bank on Main Street in Cochituate and had racked up nearly $700 in charges in other jurisdictions, including paying some outstanding court fees.

Those other jurisdictions have been alerted and additional charges could follow. In Wayland, Lopez has been charged with larceny under $250 and larceny of a credit card (both connected to the card itself) and larceny over $250 (connected to the withdraw of $500 from the Wayland ATM).
