Tom Hanks, Film Crew Using Concord Road on Thursday

Motorists who tend to use Concord Road in Sudbury may want to reconsider using it on Thursday.

According to Sudbury Police Lt. Scott Nix, the film crew for "Captain Phillips," starring Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks, will use a portion of Concord Road to film a driving scene.

Nix said to accommodate the filming efforts, portions of Concord Road will shut down sporadically.

"They would have liked to shut down the road (completely)," Nix said.

Portions of Concord Road will be blocked off from traffic for "three to four minutes at a time," Nix said. "If traffic starts to get backed up, we'll (stop) filming to let traffic through."

Nix would not say what time on Thursday the crew plans to start filming.

Nix also said plans to shoot scenes at have been canceled. He did not give a reason why.

A call to Innkeeper John Cowden Jr. was not answered.

"Captain Phillips" is based on a book real-life Capt. Richard Phillips wrote about his rescue from Somali pirates in 2008, titled "A Captain's Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea." The film is scheduled for release March 23, 2013.

Hanks won consecutive Academy Awards for Best Actor for his roles as Andrew Beckett in "Philadelphia" and as the title character in "Forrest Gump."
