Wayland Finance Committee Expands Search For Handful Of New Members
The seven-member committee plays a key role in Wayland's financial planning process.
WAYLAND, MA — The Wayland Finance Committee Appointing Board is seeking residents interested in serving on the town’s Finance Committee, commonly known as FinCom.
The seven-member committee plays a key role in Wayland’s financial planning process by reviewing and recommending annual operating and capital budgets, preparing recommendations for Town Meeting articles and presenting those recommendations to voters at Town Meeting.
This year, the FCAB is looking to appoint five new members, including two one-year positions and three three-year terms. New appointments are expected to take office on or around July 1.

FinCom works closely with the town manager and finance director throughout the budget review process. In years when the Select Board authorizes an override budget request, the committee also makes recommendations on those proposals.
Meetings are public and are typically held on Monday evenings beginning at 7 p.m. Sessions are generally conducted in person at the Town Building, though some may be held remotely via Zoom.

The committee’s workload varies throughout the year, with the busiest period running from mid-January through March during budget season and preparation for the Annual Town Meeting.
Town officials said residents with experience in finance, management, accounting, or municipal government are especially encouraged to apply. However, collaborative skills and an interest in public service are equally important. Attendance at prior Town Meetings is considered a plus.
Residents interested in serving should submit a letter of interest and resume to FCAB Chair c/o Abigail Warren, executive assistant to the town manager, at execasst@wayland.ma.us. Interviews are expected to begin in June and will be conducted via Zoom.
