Wayland Fire Department Hosting Open House Event

This is the first Wayland Fire Department open house event since 2019 due to the pandemic.

WAYLAND, MA — An annual Wayland Fire Department event that had to be postponed last year due to the pandemic is back.

The fire department and the Wayland Firefighters Association will host an open house on Saturday where families can interact with fire trucks, try on gear, meet firefighters and get information on fire safety. There will also be giveaways for kids, and an appearance by Sparky the fire dog.

In past years, the event has been held at Wayland Fire Headquarters along Cochituate Road. But this year, the event will take place outdoors at the Stop & Shop plaza along Route 20. Activities will take place near the end of the Mass Central Rail Trail near The Local.

Wayland's event will also kick off national Fire Prevention Week, which runs Oct. 3 to 9 this year. The annual fire safety week focuses on teaching young people about things like how to make sure smoke detectors work, and how to follow home emergency plans.

The Wayland Fire Department open house will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
